Basic rules before you play
- Treat the money as already spent. Only use money you can afford to lose, never money for rent, bills, food or debts.
- Set money and time limits in advance. Write them down and stop when you reach them, whether you are winning or losing.
- Don't chase losses. Trying to "win it back" is the most common way small losses become big ones.
- Don't borrow to gamble. That includes credit cards, personal loans and borrowing from family or friends.
- Don't play when stressed, angry or drunk. Decisions get worse when emotions run high.
- Take breaks. Use a phone alarm to remind you to stop.
Warning signs
Gambling may be becoming a problem if you:
- Bet more, or for longer, than you planned.
- Need to bet bigger to feel the same excitement.
- Hide your gambling or spending from family.
- Borrow money or sell things to gamble or pay gambling debts.
- Feel restless, irritable or low when you try to stop.
- Neglect work, study or family because of gambling.
- Gamble to escape problems or sad feelings.
If several of these apply to you, it is not a personal failure. It's a sign to pause and talk to someone.
Practical steps to stop or cut down
- Delete gambling apps, shortcuts and bookmarks.
- Leave Telegram and WhatsApp groups that send offers or "new links".
- Install gambling-site blocking software on your phone and computer.
- Ask your bank to lower your daily online transfer limit.
- Tell someone you trust so they can help you stick to your decision.
- If debt is weighing on you, the Credit Counselling and Debt Management Agency (AKPK) offers free financial counselling.

Helping someone you care about
If you're worried about someone's gambling, pick a calm moment to talk. Describe what you have noticed without blaming, listen to their answer, and avoid paying off their gambling debts, as this can prolong the problem. You can also call Befrienders for support for yourself.
